Green Tick Not Showing in Chrome PDF? What to Check

A PDF opening correctly in Chrome does not tell you whether its digital signature has been validated. Start with the unchanged original and check signature status separately from the page display.

First check which file Chrome opened

Look at the downloaded file rather than only the browser tab. An official signed original, a scanned page and a print conversion can all look similar on screen. Find the PDF downloaded directly from the government website and keep it separately from any edited or printed copies.

If you are viewing a document inside an email or messaging preview, download the attached original before troubleshooting. Do not take a screenshot of the page or choose Print to PDF as your first step. The file that needs checking is the original with its embedded digital signature, not a picture of it.

Why a browser view is not a signature result

Chrome's Android PDF help describes reading, searching, downloading and opening a file in another viewer. Those actions answer whether you can see the document. They are different from checking the signer's certificate and whether the signed content has changed.

Google's separate instructions for its digitally signed Indian invoices direct readers to Adobe PDF software and exclude Chrome's PDF viewer for that validation task. That is invoice-specific guidance, but it illustrates why you should seek a validation result rather than judge an official PDF solely by its browser appearance.

Open the original in a signature-aware viewer

On a computer, download the original and open it in Adobe Acrobat Reader if you want to inspect the embedded signature yourself. Adobe documents the Signatures panel, its validation option and the certificate details available through Signature Properties. Read the reported result rather than looking only for a coloured icon.

On supported Android versions, Chrome offers Open with to hand the PDF to another viewer. Choose an application with the signature features you need. A different app may display the same unchanged file differently; changing apps alone does not change the original signature or establish the issuing authority's identity.

Follow the result instead of forcing a green tick

If a validator reports an intact, trusted signature, the missing Chrome tick may be a presentation issue. If it reports that content changed, go back to the issuing website for a fresh original. If no signature is found, check whether you selected a scan or a previously flattened copy by mistake.

A trust warning needs a different investigation from a changed-file warning. Confirm the source and certificate information using the issuer's guidance. Do not blindly trust an unfamiliar certificate or draw a green check over a warning. Neither action supplies missing evidence about the file you received.

When you need a visible mark for printing

For a paper workflow, GreenTick PDF can check a supported original and produce a flattened print-ready copy after successful validation. Upload the original digitally signed PDF downloaded directly from the official government website. Enter its password when the service asks, then follow the verification result.

Keep the downloaded print copy clearly labelled so that it does not replace your original. Its visible mark records the successful check for printing; the flattened copy is not a new digitally signed original. A receiving office or portal may require the original file or another verification method.

Before you share or submit the document

Decide whether the recipient needs paper, a readable preview or a cryptographically verifiable original. For a digital signature check, send the unchanged signed PDF. For a requested printed copy, inspect the downloaded print output and print preview first. Do not assume a browser screenshot meets either requirement.

If the file still fails in a signature-aware validator, keep the exact warning and ask the issuing service for help. Explain which original you downloaded and whether it was edited. That information is more useful than repeatedly changing browser settings or buying another attempt with the same unsuitable file.

Questions

Does a missing green tick in Chrome mean my PDF is invalid?

No. A missing display mark alone is not a validation result. Check the embedded signature in the unchanged original using a suitable validator.

Will drawing a check mark in Chrome validate the signature?

No. A drawing changes the visible page; it does not verify the issuer's certificate or the integrity of the signed content.

Can I use the GreenTick print copy for digital signature checking?

Keep the original signed PDF for cryptographic verification. GreenTick's successfully generated output is a flattened print-ready copy.
